“Grace and Peace to you this Sabbath day in the name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ! We welcome you to this time of worship, where we come to celebrate God’s saving grace in and through the death and resurrection of Christ. May your heart and mind be filled anew with God’s presence! Welcome!"

Thought For The Day

When I Say I'm a Christian
When I say "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I am saved"
I'm whispering "I get lost!"
"That is why I chose this way."

When I say "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
And I need someone to be my guide.

When I say "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong
I'm professing that I'm weak
And pray for strength to carry on.

When I say "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
And cannot ever pay the debt.

When I say "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect
My flaws are too visible
But God believes I'm worth it.

When I say "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartaches
Which is why I seek His name.

When I say "I am a Christian"
I do not wish to judge.
I have no authority.
I only know I'm loved.

Ministries of Worship, Education, and Outreach

Donated Food Needed

When you do your grocery shopping, why not buy two of a particular item, (ie. Pasta, can of soups, cereal, etc). Bring these items to church and donate them to the Food Pantry Box in the church library. Carty and Bob Bates deliver our donation to the local Food Pantry which helps people in our community have who have special needs. Your support of this project would be greatly appreciated. -- United Methodist Women.

Crafty Ladies

In Preparation for the UMW’s Snowflake Festival, Crafty Ladies will begin having weekly craft sessions. We will meet at the church every Monday at 9:30 am. All are welcome to join us.

Tape Ministry

Do you know a shut-in who would like to hear the word of God through our service on Sunday mornings? Or perhaps you didn’t get to church on Sunday and wanted to hear the message. The Tape Ministry in our church was established for these very reasons—to bring the word of God to everyone. It brings our church closer to those who are not able to attend. There is no charge for the ministry. You may keep the tape or if you would like, you can return them so we may use them again. God’s word and God’s gift are here for you! To request a tape, contact Edgar and Charlotte Moore at 334-1716, Dave Schmidt at 334-4325, or call the church office at 334-3032.

Canned Goods Labels

A great way to help children’s programs in the area is to collect all your canned goods labels. Simply come pick up some literature on the table in the hallway about what labels to save, and you can help make a difference in after children’s programs! For more information, see Faye Krantz or Natalie in the church office.

Expanding Our Children’s Ministry

We haven’t been, but we should be…providing childcare during the 9:15 AM Sunday School hour. Why? Quit simple! By doing so, our younger parents can come and share together in a small group setting that can be significant in their Christian ministry.—We need your help! We are looking for persons who would be willing to offer their love and care for Nursery age children at the 9:15 AM hour particularly, but also the 10:30 AM hour, as Tammy Lytle (the nursery coordinator for the 10:30 AM hour) is always looking for assistance. Please inquire in our office and/or sign-up on the bulletin board just outside the church office! Thank you!

Gettysburg Lions Club

Gettysburg Lions Club is currently selling fruitcakes for $5.00 and delicious Peanut Brittle for $3.00. If you would like to order some please see Ken Rienheart or call him at 334-1963.

Approaching Advent—a time of worship celebrated with Deborah J. Heisley-Cato and Russell Hart on Tuesday, November 9th from 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM at Camp Hebron, 957 Cap Hebron Road, Halifax PA. The fee is $5.00 per person. For more information, please se the church office.

The Biglerville Habit House is ready to be dedicated! On Sunday, November 7 at 2:00 pm. Contact Pastor Herr at 334-5212 for more information on how you can be part of this wonderful celebration!

Faith Journal Testimonies

When God touches your life, you have a story…faith story…to tell! The expressions become a gift to others that can endure, meaningfully, just as God’s Word always does.—In 200, many members of the Gettysburg UMC family documented their faith stories in a “Faith Journal.” These are available, yet today. If you would like to secure a copy, please contact our church office (334-3032). It will be a refreshment to you, let alone a catalyst for you to do the same!

Youth Fall Retreat – November 5 – 7

The youth are having their annual fall retreat the first weekend of November at Mt. Asbury. We will be meeting at the Church at 5:30 on Friday evening & returning to the Church by Noon Sunday. While away, we’ll have an awesome opportunity to get to know each other through games, challenge courses, and plenty of time to hang out. We will also be growing together in our faith as we continue to learn more about our purpose in life. It is not too late to join us! Please contact Sara Bupp for further information: 487-5282.

Ministry Fair Sunday, November 14th

“Betsy Speer, our Ministry Fair coordinator, is inviting you to share in a grand opportunity to learn more about our ministry within the Gettysburg UMC family as well as the community. Representatives of various ministries will be present to share the “who, what, where, when and how” of their particular ministry. Mark your Calendar today!”

40 Days of Purpose Continues!

If you have been memorizing the weekly verses and reading the daily chapters in The Purpose Driven Life, you have gotten a head-start on next week's purpose, Discipleship.  God created you to become like Christ, and He uses various influences are obvious, like Bible memory and daily scripture reading.  Other influences He uses are more mysterious.  Come back next week and discover God's plan for your growth.

Pray that God would stir in our church an authentic hunger for spiritual transformation and lasting kingdom fruit.  Ask God to guide our members into a deep, lifelong commitment to spiritual growth.

Please Don’t Forget!
There are still more books available to those who need one! They are in Pastor Jay’s office, and if you are in need of one, please contact him and let him know. We do not have any more large print ones, but can get some if needed. Pastor Jay now has audiotapes as well. If you missed the Simulcast—don’t fear! There are copies of it on VHS as well as DVD. If there is anything else you would like information on, please contact the church office at 334-3032, or Pastor Jay and we would be happy to help.

Rev. Dr. Timothy Baer, Presiding/Chambersburg District Superintendent   We are pleased to welcome all members and friends of Gettysburg UMC to this Annual Church Conference. Our focus will be the celebration of ministry---past, present, and future. Please note that our time together will take place in the fellowship hall with lunch for everyone preceding the conference. All members of GUMC are to vote on ministry recommendations. Please join us!
