Mission Can

January's Mission Can is designated for the youth members of the Gettysburg
Area High School Orchestra. In May 2004, the Orchestra will be
participating in the 2004 Stars At Sea Royal Caribbean Concert Cruise aboard
the "Majesty of the Seas." The goal of the trip is to be adjudicated  in a
concert on board ship, perform in Nassau, Bahamas, and if time allows,
perform in Miami, Florida. The Youth members that will be participating in
this cruise are: Allison Hunt, Rachel Sorber, Paige Keeney, Andrew Shevchuk and Kevin Shevchuk.
Thank you for your support of our Youth!

Opportunities for Ministry

 

Mission Central has been notified by UMCOR that Health and School Kits will be sent to Iran in the not too distant future. Kits that are being prepared at Mission Central will either be going directly to Iran or to the Depot to act as back up inventory for those being sent.
We urgently need the following specific items:

 Health Kits:

  • metal nail files or clippers
  • hand towels (suggested sizes: 15 X 25 or 17 X 27)
  • single adult size toothbrushes:

School Kits:

  • lined pads or 8.5 X 11 paper or 200 to 300 count packs of notebook paper
  • plastic pencil sharpeners (must be larger than 1" by ½" size which present a swallowing hazard)
  • blunt children's scissors
  • boxes of 24 crayons (the new size that is being specified by UMCOR).

Please bring all items to the church. The box is located in the hallway by the Mission Can.

SUMMER CAMPING MINISTRIES NEED YOU!
Employment begins with a week of training, starting around the second week of June and concluding August 21. Most positions involve working six days a week and often require more than an 8 - hour day. Pay is $200/2k, plus room and board. Paid positions available are Lifeguards, Program Staff, Food Service and Maintenance. Volunteer positions available are Counselors, Camp Nurses.

Mission Can suggestions are needed for the year 2004. If there is a
specific charity for which you would like to see the mission can designated please see Pastor Joyce.

The Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary is sponsoring a week-long emphasis of special events highlighting Domestic Violence and the Church's Response. All the events that are free and open to the public are posted on the Community Events Bulletin Board.

Conference Council of Ministries (CCOM) is on the road for training.
Some of the training small groups include Camping and Retreats, Christian
Education, Communications, Discovery Place, Missions, Facts and Figures and
Growing God's Church in a New Age. The cost is $3.00 per person to cover
the cost of the meal. Applications for this training are on the
Opportunities for Ministries Bulletin Board.

cards were such an emotional and spiritual lift during a difficult time.

We invite you to use one to follow along in the reading of today's scripture.

Tape Ministry - Our members in nursing homes and those unable to get to church and now able to hear our Sunday services and feel a part of the church congregation. If you know of a shut-in and would like to take a tape to them, please call Ed and Charlotte Moore @ 334-1716. We owe David Schmidt a debt of gratitude for helping us in recording these tapes.
